The backup is totally independent of the version of Windows Mobile running on the device and independent of the device itself. The backup is also independent of the language used on the aircraft. You can easily save on a Chinese aircraft and restore in a German.
There are two types of safeguards. The binary backup feature has been put in place to have a backup / restore process that is faster and more reliable, the disadvantage is that the content of backup can not be easily modified or consulted. The text of backup was put in place to see / change the content on a PC for example.
